The Cheech Museum Will Be a Focus of Her Term
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A dedicated art enthusiast and long-time Riverside supporter, Best Best & Krieger LLP Partner Michelle Ouellette is melding these two passions in her new role as Riverside Art Museum Board of Trustees president.
Having served on RAM Board for several years, Ouellette said she is looking forward to continuing her service — especially her work in helping to make The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art, Culture, & Industry of the Riverside Art Museum a reality.
“With the large Hispanic community in the region, as well as the State, it’s vitally important to reflect its art, as well as its history and culture,” Ouellette says. “This is one of the most important cultural developments in the region in many years, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”
The Cheech will feature art from comedian and actor Cheech Marin’s personal collection. It will be located in what is currently the main library next to the historic Mission Inn and around the corner from RAM. A new main library is being constructed and, once complete, work will begin on The Cheech in 2020.
Ouellette, an environmental law attorney, has donated legal work to The Cheech’s development. This includes negotiations with the City of Riverside and Cheech, drafting the legal agreements and working to secure funding. She also procured financial contributions, time and skills from BB&K and her colleagues at the firm.
In addition to serving on RAM Board, Ouellette is a past president of the Riverside County Bar Association, a long-time member of the Raincross Group and is the secretary/treasurer of the International Bar Association’s Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law. In 2016, she was the recipient of the prestigious ATHENA of Riverside award and received the Daily Journal’s Environmental California Lawyer of the year award in 2017.
