Special Food Distribution Taking Place Wednesday, January 30

Riverside, CA – January 30, 2019 – Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino (FARSB), will help host an event to provide food and resources to federal government employees following weeks of recent government shutdowns. That distribution, exclusively for Federal workers, will be on Wednesday, January 30th from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the FARSB Warehouse located at 2950-A Jefferson, Street in Riverside, CA.

The distribution was already planned last week prior to the reinstatement and management at FARSB is confident that this and additional events may still be necessary. Government workers may come by anytime during the two hour window and simply show their Federal employee identification card and bring bags to fill with a variety of dry and fresh foods.

Stephanie Otero, CEO, of the Inland Empire’s Regional food bank, says “We support our federal workers, and while we are thankful for the reprieve in the government shutdown, we realize there is still a need for our services, as employees’ wait to receive their back pay and wages.  Our food bank is here to help fill that need. “

“This additional distribution was really spurned on and planned by our employees who were moved deeply by the influx of furloughed Federal workers and their families who have been coming by and calling the food bank”, she added. “It’s simply not acceptable to our staff that even one family still feels the strain of not having enough to make ends meet.”

Otero encourages all community members in need to find one of FARSB’s more than 450 partner agency listed in their own neighborhood by calling FARSB at (951) 359-4757.

In the Inland Empire, more than 800,000 people struggle with food insecurity and may not know where they’ll find their next meal. That number includes one in 5 children.
