Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. – August 8, 2019 – The Peterbilt Technician Institute (PTI) Manufacturer-Specified Advanced TrainingProgram is making its west coast debut this August at the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) campus in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Tuition for the PTI program is paid by Peterbilt and offers students advanced training with the manufacturer’s specific products and technologies and the opportunity to earn 12 Peterbilt certifications to prepare for careers in the diesel industry.

“The Peterbilt Technician Institute program will be a first-time and one-of-a-kind training opportunity for those in Southern California,” said Migdalia Vasquez-Valle, UTI-Rancho Cucamonga campus president. “With our campus in the logistics and transportation hub of the Inland Empire, this course will keep trucks moving in our region and beyond, as well as create promising career opportunities for our students.”

The 12-week program was created in collaboration with UTI by Peterbilt, one of America’s most reputable and well-known heavy-duty truck manufacturers. To be admitted to PTI, students must graduate from UTI’s core Automotive or Diesel program with a strong GPA and attendance record, and undergo a rigorous application process. When students complete the program, they go to work at one of the North American Peterbilt service locations.

“Peterbilt is dedicated to educating the next generation of diesel technicians,” said Brian Brooks, Peterbilt PTI director. “This partnership with UTI lets us recruit the best talent and teach these talented technicians the skills they’ll use on the job at one of Peterbilt’s more than 350 Peterbilt service locations across North America.”

Rancho Cucamonga is the fourth UTI campus to offer the PTI program, which is already available at the company’s campuses in Lisle, Illinois; Exton, Pennsylvania; and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.

Certifications students can earn in the program include Peterbilt Service Boot Camp, Peterbilt Electrical Fundamentals, Introduction to Peterbilt HVAC Systems, Hands-On Electrical Troubleshooting, and many others.

Industry demand for trained automotive and diesel technicians continues to accelerate. The U.S. Department of Labor projects that, by 2026, there will be more than 1.2 million job openings in the automotive, diesel and collision repair industries. 1 To help reach that total, the transportation industry will need to fill more than 120,000 technician job openings annually, on average.

A program launch ceremony will take place on August 16, 2019 at the campus in Rancho Cucamonga.
