Active Shooter and Mass Casualty Training in Rancho Cucamonga

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA. (August 22, 2019) – While terrorism and tragedy has become a gut-wrenching reality in our world today, United Christian Academy and Abundant Living Family Church have partnered with Rancho Cucamonga Police Station’s Solutions Oriented Policing Division to conduct an Active Shooter and Mass Casualty Training on their campus from Monday, August 26 through Wednesday, August 28. This bi-annual training spans over three days and helps prepare all agencies on how to engage an active shooter and how to render medical aid to victims of an active shooter.

In 2018, there were 339 mass shooting incidents reported and verified across the United States (Gunviolencearchive.org, 2018). Unfortunately, there is no way to predict when or where these incidents may occur; therefore, schools, churches, businesses and government agencies must be ready. United Christian Academy’s Safety Committee and Administration Team have worked diligently to train staff and students on how to stay safe in an emergency, and this drill will serve as yet another opportunity for the school and church community to be prepared. 

This multi-agency training will allow the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD), along with the Rancho Cucamonga Police and Fire Departments, to coordinate learning objectives, both individually and as a team. A suspect at the location will engage the deputies with a blank cap gun and deputies will pursue to eliminate the threat by using air guns. (Equipment used does not shoot any projectiles that could damage property.) Once the threat is eliminated, deputies will escort Fire/Rescuer personnel to render medical aid to victims. Approximately 40-60 volunteers assist in the training as victims.

Due to the amount of emergency vehicles, simulated gun shots, and media; SBCSD will distribute Community Training Notice flyers to neighboring businesses making them aware of the training. Additionally, the event will be posted on the Sheriff’s social media sites. The training will take place at 10900 Civic Center Drive in Rancho Cucamonga. Drills will begin as early as 5:30am and could run until 4:00pm each day, with various scenarios taking place throughout the day. (Because students will be on campus, there will be no simulated explosions during these drills.)
